Aaliyah's Death

I hate looking at some of these pictures. They make me really sad. But I thought I would post them just in case you wanted to see them. Although I don't see why you would want to see some of them.

Aaliyah

She was born Aaliyah Haughton (Aaliyah, which is pronounced Ah-LEE-yah, means "exalted one" in Swahili) in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Detroit. She sang at her church, performed in school plays and earned straight A's as a dance major at the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts.
Recognizing her vocal ability, Aaliyah's mother enrolled her daughter in voice lessons and sought advice from Aaliyah's uncle, Barry Hankerson, an artistic management company executive and ex-husband of legendary Gladys Knight.
Aaliyah began singing professionally at the age of 9, auditioning for television pilots and record companies. At 11, she performed with the Gladys Knight troupe in Las Vegas.

Death Notice

U.S. singer and actress Aaliyah, whose 1994 solo debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number," sold more than a million copies and catapulted her to fame, was killed in a plane crash Aug. 25 on an island in the Bahamas. She was 22.
Eight others aboard the twin-engine Cessna, all U.S. citizens, were killed when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff at Marsh Harbour International Airport, on the island of Abaco, authorities said. There were no survivors, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, said Sgt. Ernest Rahming, of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Aaliyah, a New York resident, had been on the islands, which are about 170 miles east of south Florida, filming a music video and was bound for an airport in Opa-Locka, Fla., Rahming said.

Her meteoric rise from a 15-year-old talent to new artist-to-watch was built on her sultry voice, sexy attitude and movie star looks. Two singles on her first album went gold: "Back and Forth," which rose to No. 1 on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues chart, and "At Your Best (You are Love)," which reached No. 2 on the R&B chart and the Top 10 on the pop chart.
Her early career became mired in scandal, however, amid press reports that she secretly married her producer, R. Kelly. Aaliyah, who was 15 at the time, denied the reports and dropped out of the limelight before reemerging in 1996 with her second album, "One in a Million," which went double-platinum and featured cameos by rap artists Treach and Slick Rick.

Year 2001 she released her newest album, "Aaliyah." She also was known for her recordings of motion picture songs. She performed a soulful rendition of her Best Song nominee "Journey to the Past," from the movie "Anastasia," at the 1998 Academy Awards. Her other soundtrack credits include a single for the movie "Dr. Dolittle," starring Eddie Murphy.
Making the transition to acting, she made her film debut playing the love interest of Chinese martial arts master Jet Li in the action movie "Romeo Must Die." More recently, she was scheduled to appear in two sequels to the science fiction movie "The Matrix."
"Hollywood and black entertainment in particular has lost the woman who would have eventually become the Diana Ross or Whitney Houston of the twenty-something generation," said Bill Carpenter, a Washington-based syndicated radio announcer and former publicist for Aaliyah.

From Yahoo's Articles
8/30/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- Luis Morales III, the pilot of the fatal plane crash that killed singer and actress Aaliyah on Saturday (August 25), and eight others including himself, was reportedly not authorized for the fatal flight. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesperson Kathleen Bergen told ABC News that Blackhawk International Airways, which owned the Cessna 402 aircraft that crashed, had been cited four times in the past four years, one of the four was for a safety violation. Bergen also explained that the plane was authorized to fly under an air-taxi certificate that authorizes charter flights by one pilot, but the pilot listed wasn't Morales.

In addition, Morales entered a plea of no contest to crack cocaine possession and three other felonies only 12 days before the accident, according to the Miami Herald. Under FAA guidelines, he had 60 days to report the plea to aviation officials who could have revoked his license

Ludacris Expresses His Grief Over Aaliyah's Death

As the ongoing investigation promises to turn up more facts about the tragic incident, many of the recording industry biggest stars have publicly expressed their grief. Recently LAUNCH spoke with rapper Ludacris about Aaliyah's untimely demise. "Man, I'm one of those people where I heard it, and I'm still hearing it, and reality still has not set into me that she's gone, man," he said. "I just seen her like a week before she passed and I mean it was devastating to me. I just know she's such a good person. I mean who deserves something like that? Nobody deserves anything like that, but it really just makes you think about your life and like I was saying sometimes you just gotta live life like every day might be your last one 'cause you never know when you gonna go."

Pilot's warning unheeded

............................................
In the days after the tragic plane crash in the Bahamas that killed singer/actress Aaliyah, plus eight others, it's been discovered the pilot actually warned the passengers of the Cessna 402 that there was too much weight onboard for a safe flight to Opa-Locka airport in Miami.

Veteran Bahamian charter pilot Lewis Key told The Post he overheard a heated argument between the pilot and Aaliyah's video crew about the weight of the equipment loading the plane down. "He tried to convince them the plane was overloaded, but they insisted they had chartered the plane and they had to be in Miami Saturday night," Key said. Aaliyah was in the Bahamian Abaco Islands finishing a music video.

Another possible cause of the tragedy, Keys said, could have been engine failure. Several people who witnessed the crash said the plane lost an engine on takeoff.

One witness, George Thomas told The Post he saw the plane slowly climbing to about 50 feet when it veered to the left and dove nose-first into a swamp, bursting into flames. "It didn't look like anyone could survive that crash," Thomas said. "The nose was broken right off and the fuselage was crumpled and there was TV equipment and luggage scattered about."

Investigators today were wading through the smoldering swampland, cording off areas and removing luggage and equipment as well as searching for any clues to the cause of the crash. A team from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to join the search today.

The tragedy of Aaliyah's death has stunned her family and friends.

In a statement issued from Aaliyah's family, they are "devastated at the loss of their loving daughter and sister. Their hearts go out to the families who also lost their loved ones in this tragic accident."

Also traumatized is Aaliyah's latest love, Damon Dash, who would not comment on her death. However, sources say Aaliyah was the love of his life and he has not gotten out of bed since he heard the news.
